Note: This article refers to an older version of our page builder. Learn how to upgrade to our most up-to-date, customizable website builder yet using Site Builder in this article.
Every course on your Thinkific site will have its own landing page. These landing pages are there to explain what your course is and why someone should enroll in it. In other words, they help sell your site's visitors a course!
You don't need an external tool to build landing pages for your course. However, if you already use a landing page builder that you love, you can set your course landing page to be hidden, and then link directly to your course's checkout from your third party landing page.
In our guide on How to Create a Sales Page for Your Online Course, we outline the three things your sales page should convey:
- Who the course is for.
- What your course teaches.
- Why what you're teaching is beneficial.
In this article, we'll cover how to edit each part of the course landing page to accomplish these goals.
Keep in mind there are limitless ways to edit a course landing page in Thinkific, and your applied site theme may offer up different customization options than what is shown in the examples below.

How to Edit a Course Landing Page
To get started, make your way into the Page Builder tab of the course builder.
You can do this from your Admin Dashboard by selecting Manage Learning Content > Courses in the sidebar menu, then select the Edit button on a course you've already made. If you do not have a course in your Thinkific course site, click on Create a Course to get started.
The landing page will have several different sections in it that can be re-arranged by dragging and dropping:
You can edit some aspects of the Page Header and Page Footer but the way these sections look may also be controlled from the Branding section of your course site's Admin Dashboard:
You can add a section to your landing page by clicking on Add Section. If you don't see the section you were looking for, it may not be included in your chosen site theme.
Important: Each theme will have several different section types, some unique only to that theme.
You can also delete a section from the landing page altogether by clicking on the section's name and then clicking on Delete Section.
Important: This is permanent.
Editing the Course Banner
The first thing anyone visiting your course landing page will see is the Banner. This needs to be eye-catching and convey what super power your course will give your students after they complete it.
The Banner Image, the Overlay color and it's opacity, the Banner Title, and the Banner Subtitle below it, can all be set in your theme's Banner section in the Page Builder's menu.
Important: The options you have available to you in the Banner section (and any landing page section) will depend on what site theme you have installed on your site.
Click on the Banner section to start editing it:
The options available in your Banner section will change how the banner looks on the landing page in your Landing Page Preview.
Try uploading a background image and applying a background color with a color overlay at an opacity like so:
You can edit the text on the banner, but the CTA (or buy button/enroll for free button) will have its colour set in the Branding section of your Admin Dashboard.
Editing the Landing Page Body
Creating a great sales landing page will rely on a strong course description. This area is the landing page's main body content - your sales copy.
Add the field called Description, or a simple text field section type, to the landing page to get started:
You can use images, links, and formatted text to create attractive sales copy using the WYSIWYG editor in Thinkific:
You can format text, add lists, indent text, add images, insert videos from YouTube or Vimeo (as well as videos already uploaded to your Video Library), tables, links, file attachments and more.
Instructor profiles can be added to landing pages to share a little about the person teaching the online course. They aren't users on your course site. Use instructor profiles to sell yourself (or the person who has made your course content) as the right person to be teaching this course.
Important: Instructor profiles, their images, and bios can be managed from the Instructors section of the Admin Dashboard.
If your applied site theme includes an instructor section, you can also edit these details of the instructor bio right in the section on your landing page:
Adding or Editing a Call to Action (CTA)
Any sales landing page needs several CTAs throughout the sales copy. A CTA for an online course is usually a button that takes the reader from the landing page to the sign-up/checkout form.
In your course site's theme, there may be an option to add a section to your landing page that contains a pre-made Call to Action that you can edit the look of:
Course Curriculum Overviews
One of the main reasons someone reads through an online course's landing page is to learn more about what the course actually covers. A course curriculum will include an outline of all the lessons and chapters in your online course.
Depending on the site theme applied to your course site, you may have the option to include a Course Curriculum or Course Contents section on your landing page.
These kinds of sections will display all the content in the Curriculum tab of your course. These sections may only show the content types or an outline of the lessons using their titles. Draft content does not appear in these sections.
Other Landing Page Content
Your course site's theme will dictate what is available to be added to your course's landing page. Reviews and testimonials, upsells, cross-promotions, additional prices, and other information across your course site can all be added to the course landing page by adding the corresponding section:
Reviews, Ratings, & Testimonials
If you have reviews enabled for your course, your students can rate your course and give you written reviews. If there is a testimonial or reviews section on your landing page, you can include these reviews on the course landing page.
You can add the section like others on your landing page:
Then, depending on the site theme, you may be able to select which reviews or testimonials you would like to showcase:
Upsells & Additional Prices
Your course landing page can also include a section to showcase upsells, cross-promotions, and additional prices.
Cross-promotions (selling other courses/bundles on a different course's landing page) can be set up via this section, but Additional Prices need to be set up in the Pricing tab of your course builder per course or bundle.
Upsells and Additional Prices will appear in the Upsells section options for your course landing page:
After adding the section, select a product, and then select a price for that product to display:
