Importing Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, and Other Multimedia Content to Your Course

If you are looking at using Captivate and Storyline files within Thinkific, you'll want to follow these instructions on properly exporting the files so that they can be hosted on Thinkific. These files must be exported for web (HTML5).


For Thinkific to host these files you will have to be on our Pro Plan or above. 


Note that Thinkific does not support SCORM, Tin Can or AICC files/reporting. More details on that HERE.

Make sure that you uncheck the Enable Reporting option for your project. Details on where to find that setting in Captivate under the LMS section here: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-troubleshooting/how-to-set-up-preferences


To publish Adobe Captivate files for Thinkific, open the project and then click File > Publish or on the button bar, click Publish > Publish to Computer. Once done, you should see the following dialog: 



Then click on Publish and navigate to the specified folder in your local device to see the assets from your project:



Add all the components into a ZIP file to be sent to Thinkific.

Adding your content to your Thinkific course

To get your content hosted on your Thinkific website, please send the exported ZIP file from Captivate or Storyline to customers@thinkific.com. Once we receive the file, we will upload it to our servers and send you an email with the relevant links which can be used in your course via a Multimedia Lesson. You can simply add the supplied URL into the lesson, save and preview the content as a student to see how it displays in Thinkific.


Expectations and Guidelines for file upload:

  • In order for us to upload, we need the files zipped from the file level as outlined here >>
  • Please keep in mind it can take up to 2-4 Business days for Thinkific to upload and prepare these files for your course.
  • If you have multiple files best practice is to create all of these files at one and send them to Thinkific in one go. 
  • If using DropBox to send the files to Thinkific, you can send a shared file link by following these instructions: https://www.dropbox.com/help/files-folders/view-only-access

Common Questions and Troubleshooting Guide

Why is my file not working?


Sometimes, individual browser securities may cause an older version of published Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline files to not work within Thinkific. If you have access to the original file, we recommend re-exporting the file with an updated version of your publishing program.


Do you recommend using Rise or Storyline content?


Both Articulate Rise and Storyline can be included in Thinkific.

Rise can also be used, however the default settings can create a double navigation menu due to our built in Course Player sidebar, which can cause some confusion for students when navigating through lessons. 


To prevent this, we recommend using Rise's Sidebar Visibility feature to remove the sidebar from the course. This is an example of how Rise will look when the the sidebar is not removed:
