Custom Page Meta Tags

If you want to add another page to your Thinkific course site, you can accomplish this in the Pages section of Admin Dashboard. When adding new pages you can name the page, add content, and then set up the basic Page SEO details that will make it shine in search engine results pages.


However, you can also add other page Meta Tags as well for other purposes like making sure the correct image is used when your page is shared on social media. This is something Thinkific will do automatically in the future, but for now it can be done while editing or adding a new page to your course site.


How to Add Meta Tags to a Custom Page

In the left hand side of your Admin Dashboard, under the Site section, select Pages.



From there you'll want to either Edit an existing custom page, or select the Create a New Page button to add one.



Each time you create a custom page for your Thinkific course site, you should fill out the Page SEO section after the Edit Page section. There are a few basic meta tag fields that you can add to any custom page to improve its SEO:


Title 

The page title is the text you see in your browser tab when the page is open and the link text on a search engine results page. Any page title should be less than 40 characters long.

 

Description

The page description is the text you will see under the link text on the search engine results page. Any page description should be at most between 150 - 160 characters long.


Keywords

Page keywords help search engines and other sites looking at your page figure out what its content is about. Separate each keywords by a comma in this field. Around 3 - 10 keywords should be good enough.



Meta Tags for Social Media

After setting up your basic custom page SEO, you may wish to add other meta tags that do more specific jobs, like make sure your page looks good when shared on various social media. You can do this by editing the field under the heading Meta Tags.



There are several different kinds of meta tags for the various social media companies out there. The major ones are outlined below. Where you see suggestions in the tag (e.g. "Page Title Here"), make sure to change this by filling in your page's details.


Facebook uses a standard called OpenGraph. There are a few OpenGraph meta tags to make sure your page appears like you want it to when it gets shared on Facebook:

Twitter uses a standard it calls Twitter Cards. Here are some suggested meta tags to make sure your page looks good when it gets shared on Twitter:

Google, and several other platforms, follow a microdata standard that is built into the most recent versions of HTML. Its tags begin with 'itemprop'.

That's it! Now your additional page will look fantastic on search engine results pages and when shared on social media!
